Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia. The etiology is unknown and there is no known cure for this devastating progressive neurodegenerative disease. The hippocampus is affected and prevents the patient from forming new memories. The patient often recognizes it but doesn’t want to talk about the “hippo” in the room. Obesity course description: In this 3 hour educational workshop, learners will be exposed to multiple aspects of diagnosing, treating, caring for, and preventing obesity among primary care patients. Skin cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in the United States and primary care providers are often the first to screen and detect these. Many patients with depression do not respond to standard antidepressant treatment even after the addition of second and third antidepressant trials.  As standalone therapies, antidepressant medications are likely to be unsuccessful in yielding therapeutic benefits. However, there is a considerable amount of scientific research that supports adjuvant nutritional therapies. This presentation will explore some of the common underlying biological factors precipitating depression. Practical, evidence-based interventions to enhance the efficacy and minimize the side effects of antidepressant medications will be described. Suicide is a public health issue of critical importance, one which merits our best, most focused efforts towards treatment and prevention, and stopping it at the primary care level is key.
