Human trafficking (HT) impacts over 50 million individuals worldwide. Although an intersection between HT victims and HCPs exists, many victims seen by HCPs remain unidentified. This training will focus on human trafficking, risk factors associated with human trafficking, adverse childhood experiences, and the role of the healthcare provider.

Charrita Ernewein, PhD, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC, SANE-A, FAANP is a family nurse practitioner specializing in pediatrics. She is an Assistant Professor at The University of Tampa and works for the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. Dr. Ernewein completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, her Master of Science at South University, her Doctoral Nurse Practitioner at South University in Tampa, Florida, and her PhD at University of Central Florida. Dr. Ernewein holds a national certification with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and a certification as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. Dr. Ernewein is also certified as a Psych Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Dr. Ernewein is a strong advocate within the community, working closely with professional organizations and community resources regarding the topics of human trafficking and vulnerable populations. Dr. Ernewein is the Director of Community education with The FREE Network. She has also been published in the Journal of Nurse Practitioners, Human Trafficking: Recognition, Referral and Treatment. Her dissertation focused on “Survivors of Human Trafficking and their Reintegration into the Community”
Dr. Ernewein is the Chairperson of the Shared Hope International Board of Directors, Director of the FREE Network, President of Sigma Theta Tau Delta Beta Chapter, Past-President of the Tampa Bay Advanced Practice Nurse Council Group, Region 3 director for the Florida Nurse Practitioner Network, member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and member of the Black Nurses Association

Connie Rose, M.S. Ad.Ed. is an internationally recognized survivor leader, trainer, and educator with over 35 years of experience addressing sexual abuse, exploitation, and human trafficking. As Founder of Victims2Survivors-US, she has trained thousands of professionals across medical, clinical, and educational disciplines in the U.S. and abroad, equipping practitioners with trauma-informed strategies to identify, treat, and support survivors.
She has delivered trainings for nurse practitioners, physicians, physician assistants, behavioral health providers, and allied staff, focusing on medical indicators of trafficking, the intersections of trauma and health, and evidence-based screening and intervention protocols. Her curriculum aligns with national and Florida guidelines, ensuring medical professionals receive consistent, research-based, survivor-informed instruction.
In addition to her role as Chair of the Hillsborough County Commission on Human Trafficking, Connie co-created and served as Co-President of Voices for Florida’s Open Doors Outreach Network, one of the nation’s first models providing 24/7 wraparound services for child and youth trafficking survivors. This initiative ensured immediate access to medical and mental health care and set a national standard for coordinated response.
A veteran of the TEDx stage and keynote speaker, Connie also provides leadership and soft skills training—including communication, presentation, and emotional intelligence—bringing a holistic, global lens to healthcare, trauma, and human trafficking response.
