Food Allergies: Current Treatment and Differential Diagnosis

This presentation will focus on identifying common foods that cause allergic reactions in children and adults. Diagnostic testing and treatment plans will be discussed as well as evaluation plans to determine management plans for the patient and their family.

Dr. John Distler, DPA, MBA, MS, FNP-C, FAANP

Professor

Chamberlain University

Dr. John Distler is Professor and full-time faculty of the MSN Nurse Practitioner tracks at Chamberlain University. He previously served as department chair for online graduate nursing programs at South University and as Program Director of the Family Nurse practitioner program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. He has more than 20 years of experience in NP education.

Dr. Distler continues clinical practice as a family nurse practitioner in an Asthma/Allergy/Immunology practice. Dr. Distler has more than 32 years of experience practicing as a family nurse practitioner in family practice, emergency medicine and asthma, allergy and immunology.

Dr. Distler has served as a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners for 20 years, of which he was the Maryland state representative for six years. He is also a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners inducted in 2006. He has also been an active member of the American Academy of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology since 2006, and has presented and published on the topics of environmental and food allergies and the treatment of asthma.

Dr. Distler earned his Doctor of Public Administration from the University of Baltimore, Master of Business Administration in health care administration from Argosy University, Master of Science in family nurse practitioner from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and a Bachelor’s degree in human services – social sciences from the State University of New York at Binghamton and a family nurse practitioner certification from the University of California at Davis Medical Center. He also holds a teaching certificate in nursing and health professions from the University of Maryland School of Nursing.
