Rheumatologic Labs: Overview and Interpretation

Review common labs obtained during work up for rheumatologic conditions including appropriate clinical context, lab characteristics and interpretation.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES


After taking part in this educational activity, participants should be better able to:

- Review characteristics of serologic testing (RF, ANA, etc.) utilized in work up for rheumatologic conditions

- Review inflammatory markers (ESR, CRP)

- Review supplemental testing (HLA-B27, synovial fluid analysis) utilized in work up for rheumatologic conditions

Rachel Romero

MD

Dr. Romero is board certified in internal medicine and rheumatology. She is RhMSUS certified (musculoskeletal ultrasound certification in rheumatology). She is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society.
She specializes in treating rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, Sjögren's syndrome, scleroderma, inflammatory myopathy, vasculitis and gout.
She received her medical degree at West Virginia University in 2013 and completed her residency at Case Western Reserve University in 2016. She followed that with a fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill completed in 2018. She has been in clinical practice with Atrium Health since 2018.
