Primary Care "Lab Fest" Virtual Conference (Recorded)

This bundle discusses all things labs. From the management of anemia to the identification of polycythemia. The bundle will prepare the clinician on how to interpret those hard to manage labs such as liver enzymes to the management of vitamin deficiencies. This is an essential bundle for any APP.

*Due to rapidly changing clinical knowledge, once purchased, you have 90 days access to complete this education.

Selecting, interpreting, and managing hematologic laboratory tests are essential to quality care and often is a complex and challenging process. Interpreting labs is much more complicated than determining if results are normal or anormal. Understanding the normal physiology of blood cell production and the pathophysiology of conditions that can cause abnormalities is important to diagnosing, managing and often preventing pathological hematologic conditions, such as anemia and polycythemia. This presentation will help learners manage these conditions using a systematic approach to selection and interpretation of labs and evidenced based management using case studies for context. | 1.0 CE/CME category 1 credits (0.00 Pharmacology) | $27.50

The urine pregnancy test is the most common test performed in clinical care and yet we often do not treat it like other lab tests. When we perform a lab test, it is our clinical responsibility to interpret the test results, inform the patient, discuss treatment options and then either provide or refer for treatment. In the case of the pregnancy test, we often stop at informing the patient of the results. In this presentation, you will become comfortable interpreting pregnancy test results, discussing all treatment options and providing or referring for care. We will start with the basics of the pregnancy test: how long it takes for a pregnancy test to become positive after sex and menses; how long it takes to become negative after miscarriage and abortion and the expected trends of HCG levels in normal and ectopic pregnancies. You will learn how to provide the complete management of a negative pregnancy test including how to use it as an opportunity to prevent birth defects and intiate birth control using the quick start method. You will also gain all the skills you need to be comfortable providing the complete management of a positive pregnancy test. You will learn how to inform a patient of a positive pregnancy test in a non-judgemental and supportive manner. You will learn how to discuss all treatment options of a positive pregnancy test including abortion. We will talk about the landscape of abortion access in the U.S. and how to provide resources and referrals for abortion care. | 1.0 CE/CME category 1 credits (0.50 Pharmacology) | $30.00
