Upper extremity pain and injuries are common. This presentation will assist the primary care and urgent care provider in understanding common pathology affecting the non-traumatic adult shoulder. Common pathologies will be discussed in detail such as rotator cuff tears, impingement, biceps tendonitis, & AC pathology. Common provocative physical exam techniques will also be addressed. We will also cover other pathology that can mimic shoulder pathology. Case studies, radiographs, and demonstrations will be used to enhance the learning process.

Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) are an important element in the American Diabetes Association’s treatment algorithm for T2DM, yet they are under-prescribed. Learn about the benefits and limitations of GLP-1RAs and how they are making a difference in the lives of patients with T2DM.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of the activity, participants will be able to: 
•Compare the glycemic and extra-glycemic profile of GLP-1RAs with other classes of medications for type 2 diabetes mellitus.
•Contrast the similarities and differences among currently available GLP-1RAs.
•Select and optimize GLP-1RA therapy in collaboration with the patient to facilitate long-term patient self-management and adherence. 
 •Individualize GLP-1RA therapy for patients with T2DM and CV risk factors or established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease as recommended by the ADA Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes - 2021.Participants can earn 1.0 CE Credits for participating in the PCEC partner program, "Optimizing the Benefits of GLP-1 RAs in T2DM." Wendy received her Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2019 from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. She is a 1992 graduate of the Adult Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program at Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts and completed a family nurse practitioner post-master’s program in 1995.  She is an adult and family nurse practitioner and the owner of two, nurse practitioner owned and operated clinics within New Hampshire named: Wright & Associates Family Healthcare.  Her family practices have won numerous awards, including Top Providers in New Hampshire 2018, Top 20 Fastest-Growing Family Business, and Top 20 Women-Owned Business in New Hampshire. In addition, she is the Owner of Partners in Healthcare Education, a medical education company. She is the Past President of NPACE and the Senior lecturer for Fitzgerald Health Education Associates.

She is the recipient of numerous awards and was chosen by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners as the 1999 recipient of the New Hampshire State Excellence Award. In addition, she received the 2009 NH Nurse Practitioner of the Year and the 2014 Top 5 Women in New Hampshire Business Award. In 2005, she was inducted as a Fellow into the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners; in October 2014, a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, and in March 2017, a Fellow into the National Academies of Practice.

She is the founder of the NH Chamber of Entrepreneurial Nurse Practitioners, an organization designed to assist nurse practitioners with independent practice issues. In addition to full-time clinical practice, she presents nationally to different audiences and has been a speaker at over 1000 conferences in 47 states. She is the nurse practitioner representative to the State of NH Immunization Advisory Board.  She has been a medical media spokesperson for numerous companies and has appeared on radio, television, and in print magazines. Wendy is frequently consulted by malpractice attorneys around the area of clinical practice and has worked on more than 100 malpractice cases involving nurses and nurse practitioners. 

Davida F. Kruger, MSN, APNBC, BCADM

Ms. Kruger has been a certified nurse practitioner in diabetes at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, MI, for more than 35 years. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing degree from Wayne State University in Detroit and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Boston College, in Boston, MA. Her role includes both clinical practice and research, and she is board-certified in both primary care and advanced diabetes management.

Ms. Kruger has been a co-investigator on numerous studies of diabetes interventions and care, including the National Institutes of Health-funded multicenter EDIC and ACCORD trials. She lectures extensively throughout the United States on maximizing outcomes in diabetes and diabetes management.

She is a past Chair of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) Research Foundation and has served on the ADA Research Policy Committee. She is also an ADA Past President, Health Care and Education. She has published more than 50 abstracts, articles, and chapters on diabetes management and authored the 2006 second edition of The Diabetes Travel Guide. She has also served as editor-in-chief of two American Diabetes Association (ADA) journals, Diabetes Spectrum and Clinical Diabetes.

Her awards include the Florence Nightingale Award for Excellence in Research; ADA’s Rachmeil Levine Award for Distinguished Service, Award for Outstanding Service in Diabetes Research Funding, Wendell Mays Award, and 2017 Outstanding Educator in Diabetes Award; the 2014 Clara Ford Award for Nursing Excellence in Research and Education, the 2014 Wayne State University School of Nursing Alumna of the Year Award, and the 2017 International Diabetes Center Donnell Etzwiler Memorial Award.

Victoria Garcia-Albea, NP is a pediatric nurse practitioner working at Lahey Clinic Dermatology in Burlington, MA.  She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with her BSN in 2003 and her MSN in 2006.  She then completed the Lahey Clinic Dermatology Nurse Practitioner Fellowship Program in 2007.  She worked at Lahey Dermatology from 2--7 until 2011. She then worked at Mystic Valley Dermatology in Stoneham, MA from 2011 until 2019.  In 2019 she returned to Lahey Clinic to take over as director of the Lahey Clinic Dermatology NP Fellowship Program.  She is in charge of the Lahey Dermatology Hair Loss Clinic and is the lead NP for the Lahey Clinic Hansen's Disease Program.

She has been married to the love of her life since 2008 and has 2 school-age boys. She enjoys her work immensely, but outside of work you can find her running, biking, hiking, rock climbing, and snowboarding.

Dr. Hemmer has been board certified as an adult nurse practitioner since 1999. He is also a board-certified orthopedic nurse practitioner and a fellow of the American Association of nurse practitioners. His area of specialty is in adult spinal disorders for the last 22 years. He currently evaluates new patients as well as established pre and post-operative patients. Chris has spent over nine years moonlighting in the emergency department in the past as well.

Dr. Hemmer started teaching as an adjunct for Saint Louis University in 2007. In the fall of 2013, Christopher accepted a full-time position with the school of nursing as an assistant professor for graduate students. He has co-taught several graduate-level courses over the years as well as performed as a guest lecturer during residency for the NP students. Chris has been receptive for several years to teaching in the clinical setting as a preceptor for NP students interested in spinal diseases and wanting to increase their radiology knowledge. Dr. Hemmer chairs a cadaveric CNE course yearly for spine specialists. Chris has presented various spine topics on the local, state, and national level over the years.

Dr. Hemmer research area is in vertebral compression fractures and osteoporosis. Specifically, the identification and management of fractures and osteoporosis in the adult population is a strong area of interest.

Christine Kessler is an award-winning nurse practitioner, national/international speaker, prolific author, and clinical consultant specializing in General Endocrinology, Obesity, and Metabolic Medicine. During her 48 years of nursing (40 years in advanced practice) she has held diverse roles in management, research, academia (as assistant professor undergraduate and graduate nursing), and especially clinical practice; the latter as a critical care clinical specialist, an acute care nurse practitioner (as hospitalist & intensivist) and adult endocrinology nurse practitioner.
