Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia. The etiology is unknown and there is no known cure for this devastating progressive neurodegenerative disease. The hippocampus is affected and prevents the patient from forming new memories. The patient often recognizes it but doesn’t want to talk about the “hippo” in the room. With more than 6 million American’s living with Alzheimer’s disease and a projected doubling of that number, nurse practitioners should be knowledgeable about the disease. | 1.00 credits (0.33 pharmacology) | $10.00

Little is taught to the NP about business since the focus is on clinical skill mastery. NPs are a valuable commodity to a business whether they are employed or own their own practice. A recent study published in the JAANP reveals many NPs know little about the value they bring to a practice. Business education is simply not taught in school. We learn it through the school of hard knocks and if we are lucky, from great mentors. This session will focus on documenting for APRN services, coding correctly and avoiding costly billing errors. A nurse practitioner who understands their value and can leverage this knowledge enhances the probability of a practice. | 1.00 credits (0.00 pharmacology) | $27.50

Healthcare fraud cost billions per year. Some cases are blatant but others are subtle. Many cases are found by someone seeing something and saying something. The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) investigates cases of fraud and abuse. Learn about the health care laws to protect against fraud and abuse such as the False Claims Act. Learn about cases from the OIG across the country, who was involved, what constitutes fraudulent activity, what transpired during the investigations and outcomes with respect to fines and jail time. This session will teach the NP skills to question, identify and learn the ways to identify fraudulent practices. Learn how to protect yourself for becoming an unwitting participant. | 1.00 credits (0.17 pharmacology) | $25
