Basic Lab Interpretation with Case Studies

This presentation will discuss common laboratory studies utilizing a case-based method. Then review decision-making strategies including the selection of the most appropriate tests for the clinical presentation, based on the current evidence. Lastly, explore the interpretation of the potential findings and develop the best treatment plans as well as any necessary follow-up that may be needed based on the findings.

Dr. Susan Feeney is an Assistant Professor at UMass Medical School Graduate School of Nursing and is the Director of Nurse Practitioner Tracks (AG-ACNP, AG-PCNP, FNP, PMHNP). She provided comprehensive primary care for over 22 years, practicing 10 of those years in an independent NP-owned practice, and she currently practices in College Health. Dr. Feeney has been an educator for over 20 years, dedicated to teaching, mentoring and supporting NP students. She is a Senior Faculty in Fitzgerald Health Education Associates teaching certification review courses and contributes to the PriMed’s Frankly Speaking Podcasts, focusing on evidenced-based primary care practice. Dr. Feeney speaks both regionally and nationally on many topics pertaining to primary care, including vaping, women’s health, antibiotic stewardship and lab interpretation. She has contributed to primary care and case study textbooks and authored several articles. Dr. Feeney served as Vice President (2014-2016) and President of NHNPA (2016-2018) and is an active member of MCNP.

Obtain Your Credits

To earn credits for this activity, you must complete all course components in the following order: 1) complete a three-question pre-test; 2) watch the course presentation video; 3) complete the course evaluation; 4) pass the post-test with a score of 2/3 (66.7%) or higher. You may retake the post-test until a passing score is achieved, at which point you will be able to view/print a copy of your certificate of completion. This online certificate will also be saved within your profile dashboard transcript for future access.
