Lung Cancer Soup to Nuts

This presentation will discuss lung cancer from start to finish. I will focus on needs of the primary and acute care provider. Screening will be covered in detail and how it affects outcomes. Staging and treatments by stage will also be reviewed. Treatments for advanced stage lung cancer including, chemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted therapies will be addressed and there will be an emphasis on the common toxicities that primary care and inpatient providers may encounter and how to manage these.

- Identify eligible patients for lung cancer screening and cover all of the Medicare requirements to initiate CT scan screening

- Understand the stages of lung cancer and the treatment modalities associated with each stage

- Identify and manage common toxicities associated with treatments for lung cancer


Beth Sandy

MSN, CRNP, FAPO

Beth Sandy is a nurse practitioner in the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania for the past 21 years, and an oncology nurse for 26 years. She specializes in the care of patients with lung cancer and head and neck cancers. She holds various editorial positions for oncology journals and newsletters and has published in textbooks and nursing journals about management and supportive care for patients with lung cancer. She frequently co-chairs and moderates regional and national conferences and speaks nationally on topics related to the care of patients with lung cancer.
