Dr. Heather Jackson is a pain management expert practicing in the Supportive Oncology and Palliative Care Clinic at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center and serves as an Associate Professor at Vanderbilt University’s Schools of Nursing and Medicine. She is also an Administrative Director of Advanced Practice and a founding board member of the Pain Medicine Academy of Advanced Practice Providers (PMAAPP).
A passionate clinician, educator, and researcher, Dr. Jackson is widely recognized for advancing innovative approaches to pain management and opioid stewardship. Her work explores the integration of complementary therapies—such as acupuncture—across adult and pediatric populations to improve outcomes and reduce reliance on opioids. Through her leadership, research, and national speaking, she continues to shape how clinicians approach complex pain management in today’s practice environment.
After listening to this podcast learners will:
- Differentiate between common acute and chronic pain presentations and the commonly associated injuries (sprains/strains, tendonitis, tears)
- Identify proper first-line therapies for these injuries and educational interventions specific to injury prevention including patient actions (stretch, warm up, cool down, recovery).
- Apply evidence-based strategies and practical clinical tools to guide safe and timely return-to-activity for patients experiencing musculoskeletal injuries or pain.

To earn credits for this activity, you must complete all course components in the following order: 1) watch the course presentation video; 2) complete the course evaluation; 3) pass the post-test with a score of 2/3 (66.7%) or higher. You may retake the post-test until a passing score is achieved, at which point you will be able to view/print a copy of your certificate of completion. This online certificate will also be saved within your profile dashboard transcript for future access.
