Basic Hands-On EKG Workshop

The Basic Workshop will give learners a foundation to gain confidence reading EKG’s. We will cover the waves, the intervals, the segments, EKG Terminology Arrythmias and how to break down a 12 lead with a ten step systematic approach.

After taking part in this educational activity, participants should be better able to:

-Identify what a normal 12-lead EKG tracing should look like. 
-Identify a 10-step system to read an EKG and basic EKG content.
-Identify some basic cardiac arrhythmias. 

Jennifer Carlquist, PA-C

Physicians Assistant

Central Coast Cardiology

Jennifer Carlquist PA-C works as a cardiology physician assistant with an emphasis on preventative cardiology and electrophysiology. She works a mix of inpatient and out patient medicine. She formerly worked in Primary Care and Urgent care at the beginning of her career.

She also works per diem in the Emergency Room and was one of the first Pas in the country to get her CAQ (Certificate Added Qualifications) in ER Medicine. She has been a PA for 15 years.

Previously, she worked as a 911 paramedic for 13 years starting in South Central Los Angeles where she served as a Lead Field Training Officer.

She speaks nationally on EKG's, cardiology related topics and managing difficult patient interactions. She has published articles in JAAPA on patient satisfaction and cardiology related topics.

She enjoys painting and has been featured in the local newspaper the Monterey County Weekly for her heart themed art.
