Dr. Stephen A. Ferrara, DNP, FNP-BC, FNAP, FAAN, FAANP, is a nationally recognized nurse practitioner, educator, association executive, and health policy leader with more than 25 years of experience in clinical care, academic leadership, and advocacy. He is the immediate past President of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Doctoral Nursing Practice.
Dr. Ferrara served as Professor and founding Associate Dean for Artificial Intelligence at Columbia University School of Nursing, where he led responsible AI integration across nursing education, clinical learning, and academic operations. He previously served as Executive Director of the Nurse Practitioner Association New York State and helped advance the 2022 New York Nurse Practitioner Modernization Act. In 2025, he founded AI + Nurse Academy, an online education platform focused on AI literacy, responsible use, and evidence-based practice for nurses and clinicians.
