Yoga for Low Back Pain

This 30-minute yoga session is for those who suffer from low back pain. It targets the tight muscles of the low back, hips, and hamstrings, guiding the participant through gentle poses that can be done even when in pain, using easy movements that can relieve the pain and increase flexibility to prevent further pain. This gentle session is good for almost all levels and skills of yoga. Bring your loose clothing and water to enjoy relaxing deep breaths and movement to heal your mind and body.

Dr. Carole Eldridge began doing yoga at the age of 50 as a way to deal with back pain and stress. She became a certified yoga instructor 16 years later, after retiring from a career as a nurse educator and administrator, the last 8 years serving as vice-president of Chamberlain University in Chicago. Carole is currently the owner of Nerdnurse, a company that publishes training materials for healthcare workers and provides consultation services in healthcare education. She also teaches yoga to healthcare workers and others in her community and online. Dr. Eldridge has been a registered nurse since 1974, a nurse-owned business administrator since 1994, and a nurse educator, educational administrator, and yoga practitioner since 2003. She loves helping people achieve and maintain wellness through the principles and practices of yoga.

In addition to her academic work, Dr. Eldridge was CEO of a 50-agency home care and hospice corporation and senior vice president for quality and resident services of a national assisted living company. Dr. Eldridge’s clinical experience includes 10 years as a critical care nurse, 10 years in primary care and home health care, and a year operating a clinic in Lusaka, Zambia.

Dr. Eldridge has authored three editions of a book on fall prevention for the elderly, two books on home health and hospice care, four editions of a textbook chapter for Doctor of Nursing Practice programs, and several other book chapters and professional journal articles and webinars on various healthcare issues. She has presented her work in online nursing education at national and international conferences.

Dr. Eldridge earned a diploma in nursing from Burge School of Nursing and a BSN degree from Evangel College. She earned a Master of Science in Nursing degree in nursing administration from the University of Texas at Arlington College of Nursing and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in nursing leadership and healthcare business from Rush University College of Nursing. She is board certified as an advanced nurse executive and nurse educator and is a 500-hour certified yoga teacher.
