Nurse Practitioners are on the front line in the role of treating adults with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. According to the CDC more than 34 million Americans have diabetes (about 1in 10), and approximately 90-95% of them have type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes most often develops in people over age 45 but more and more often teens and young adults are also developing it.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES


After taking part in this educational activity, participants should be better able to:

-Understand the ADA and AACE guidelines and how they pertain to medication treatment options
-Review antidiabetic treatment options; pro’s, con’s and costs
-Apply the knowledge gained in multiple case studies such that the learner is comfortable with newer standards and how they may apply

Gary Graf has been a Family Nurse Practitioner since 2000 working in the field of Family Practice for his first 3 years and Diabetes and Endocrinology for the past 16.  He has continued to work in urgent care one shift per week. 

He has been the Sub-Investigator on over 200 clinical trials in the fields of diabetes, devices, chronic kidney disease, diabetic peripheral neuropathy, erectile dysfunction, and hypertension.
